Senior year is your time to shine! After years of school, activities, and growing into the amazing person you’ve become, your senior portraits are your chance to capture this milestone in a way that’s 100% authentically you. But let’s be real—planning the perfect senior portrait session can feel a bit overwhelming. What should you wear? Where should you go? How do you make sure your personality shines through?
I’m Ashley Kay from Last Forever Images, and I’ve helped hundreds of seniors create portrait experiences that truly reflect who they are. Today, I’m sharing my insider tips on planning a senior portrait session that’s as unique as you are—from choosing the perfect outfits to finding backdrops that speak to your story.
The best senior portraits aren’t just pretty pictures—they tell your story. Before diving into outfits and locations, take some time to think about what makes you, well, YOU!
Are you classic and timeless? Edgy and artistic? Sporty and casual? Your style isn’t just about clothes—it’s about expressing who you are at this moment in your life.
Remember, there are no right or wrong choices here—only what authentically represents you!
Your outfit choices can make or break your senior portraits. Here’s how to select looks that you’ll love now and years down the road:
At Last Forever Images, I typically recommend bringing 2-3 outfit changes for variety. Here’s a winning formula:
The setting for your senior portraits sets the tone for your entire gallery. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we’re blessed with incredible diversity in potential backdrops!
One of my favorite things about being a senior photographer in Sammamish and the surrounding areas is the incredible range of backdrops we have access to—often within just a short drive!
The time of day dramatically affects the look and feel of your photos:
The days leading up to your session are crucial for ensuring everything goes smoothly:
One of the biggest concerns I hear from seniors? “I’m so awkward in photos!” Trust me—EVERYONE feels this way at first. Here’s how to overcome the awkwardness:
Here’s something I tell all my seniors: Confidence doesn’t come from knowing exactly what to do with your hands or how to position your feet. It comes from being comfortable with yourself and trusting your photographer.
At Last Forever Images, I make it my mission to help you feel at ease in front of the camera. We’ll chat, laugh, and create an environment where your authentic self can shine through.Beyond the Basics: Make It Meaningful
The best senior portraits go beyond just looking good—they capture who you are at this pivotal moment. Here are some ways to add extra meaning:
Remember that you’re multi-dimensional! Your quiet, thoughtful side deserves to be captured just as much as your vibrant, energetic side. A good senior portrait session should showcase all the facets that make you uniquely you.
Once your session is complete, the fun isn’t over! Here’s how to maximize your senior portrait experience:
Your senior portraits are worth celebrating! Don’t be shy about sharing them and the story behind them. Each location, outfit choice, and pose says something about who you are—embrace it!

I started taking photos as a way to bring healing to our world and tell the stories of the amazing human beings in my local community before they no longer could tell their story. Because, I didn't have that opportunity with any of my parents and grandparents, they passed in my early 20's.
Since 2019, I have fell more passionately in love for photography and storytelling but also my love for empowering young people in my community. So I decided to bring both passions together to create Last Forever Images.
...I was adopted at the age of 3 months by an elderly couple who didn't have the tools to raise a baby to be an empowered Black Girl living in Snohomish County. I didn't find my Black Girl Magic or learn to love my authentic self until my early-mid 20's.
I now believe my life long mission is to teach young people to find who they are and love themselves fully and to never let someone define who they are are who they should become.
